Akshay Phulgirkar is a Senior Manager in Manufacturing Science & Technology at Moderna, where he supports drug substance and drug product operations for mRNA-based therapeutics across clinical and commercial stages. He brings over 12 years of experience in bioprocess development, technology transfer, PPQ, CPV, and GMP manufacturing support, with a strong focus on scalable, compliant, and robust processes.
Prior to Moderna, Akshay held roles at Takeda, Lonza Biologics, and Bristol-Myers Squibb, gaining extensive experience across downstream process development, large-scale tech transfer, lifecycle management, and regulatory inspection support. His background spans biologics, RNA, and drug product manufacturing in both development and commercial environments.
Akshay holds a Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering and has contributed to peer-reviewed publications and scientific conferences. He is passionate about advancing best practices in CMC, data-driven manufacturing, and end-to-end lifecycle integration for next-generation therapeutics.
